When was the last time you thought to “be in service”?

As part of one world, we are all connected to each other. With that common bond comes common responsibilities as a human race. We are all in service to each other. We’re just doing it with varying degrees of intention and excellence.

How we choose to take action in the world is a large component of our fulfillments. We each have as much unique expression in our service as in everything else we do. It has the potential to reflect our talents, skills, personality — everything about us.

To mark Europe Day 2023, the European Union in Thailand, in partnership with Museum Siam and EU Members States, will be organising the EU Sustainable Food & Craft Market 2023.

Launched in 2022 and replicated this year, the full-day event will promote culinary diversity and highlight fun and innovative ways to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle through family-friendly activities around recycling, food waste reduction and other forms of sustainable consumption and lifestyles.

Every time food goes bad and has to be composted or thrown away, have you ever estimated how much money that thrown away food costs? 🥝🥑🍅

In the most recent years, food waste has become a complex phenomenon which attracting the attention of scientists, consumers, environmentalist, and activists alike. 🌏 Ending food waste has been a priority among many organisations which leads us to discussion on how Little Legend can help to solving this massive problem.

📍 THE CAUSES
Causes of food waste are improper storage, over production, oversized portions, cosmetic standards, confusing food labels, and buying too much. 🥐🍯🫘

📍 THE EFFECTS
When we throw our food waste into the trash, it can be hard to conceptualise how much damage that scraps can do. There are many effects and consequences of having so much food scraps in landfills. The main effects are releases methane, wastes resources, takes up space, bad odors and harms wildlife.

As one of our missions this year is to encourage families and schools to take action on reducing food waste and increase awareness on sustainability lifestyle. We have created a poster of ' LESS WASTE FOOD'. 🗑️♻️

With this poster, you will find 20 tips on how you or together with your child can make a positive impact at home, how you can prevent your own wasted food from being dumped into landfills which benefit both the planet and your wallet.

In this session, we focused on the importance of the earthworms and the role of decomposers in reducing the food waste. We had so much fun exploring what lies beneath the Earth’s surface and discovering some fun facts about earthworms body. 🪱

Earthworms, the engineers of the soil, are not as beautiful as butterflies. They are not as glamorous as bees but they are vital to the health of our soils and they are the real unsung heroes! 🌳

Earthworms play an incredibly important role in recycling nutrients. This humble creature toils tirelessly, eating garbage, improving soil structure, and providing a food source for other species in the food chain. 💬

Through constructing different layers in vermicomposting (worm composting jar), children gained a deeper understanding of which materials can be recycled and the basic knowledge of the Browns and Greens mix for compost. 🍂☘

🍌🍞 Children learned that earthworms eat a variety of foods including fruit and vegetable peels, bread, coffee grounds, and trimmings from the garden. 🥗🥕🫐

📍 What is the best way to dispose Little Legend

📍 What is the best way to dispose Little Legend playdough after they have gone all crumbly and dry?

→ Option 1: Put them in your organic bin 🗑️
→ Option 2: Consider composting ♻️

Little Legend organic dough is compostable. They made from flour, water, salt, natural food colouring and natural flavourings. You can break them into small pieces and throw the dough into your compost pile.

Although the salt is not good for soil and should generally be left out of compost. However, a bit of homemade playdough in a lot of compost is fine and will not cause an imbalance.

📍 How do you know if your playdough is safe to compost?
It's important to read product labels before composting playdough. So do check ingredients first! 🔎

→ If they are 100% organic then they are good to go.
→ If they include chemicals, additives, glitter and other items (artificial), they are not suitable for composting. ⚠

Next time you find your playdough is expired, don't throw them in the bin right away. If they are completely organic, they can play a role in providing a nutrient-rich fertilizer that you can use in your garden.

By doing this simple action, you divert items from landfill. 💚🤎

🔸 The Sensory-Rich Environment 🔸
Last week, we had an opportunity to provide an environmental study programme 🌿 at @kidzvillage_international where children have a rich outdoor environment, full of irresistible stimuli, contexts for play, exploration and talk, plenty of real experiences and contact with the natural world.

We explored the world of soil and the difference between soil and dirt. We learned about what's underneath the soil, discovered the different types of soil, the layers of soil known as soil horizons, including parts of the tree and flower through nature based arts and crafts. 🌼🌳🪱🍂

We practised recycling and segregation after learning. ♻️ By encouraging this simple action, we can foster many essential things in children minds. Children will become a responsible and thoughtful member of the community.

A setting was designed to be not only functional but also beautiful and reflective of the child’s learning. 📍 As we strongly believe that the quality of the play activity of a child is intrinsically linked to the nature-based environment. We see that an environment not only serves as a play décor, but it also function as a play partner that helps children to transform the perceptual world into a conceptual world. 💬
